Already, 117 MW is used in the area by large-scale production industries, producing silicon metal and high-voltage capacitors. In the near future, more power is expected to be deliverable to these industries, and the window is open for either more of the same or other types of industries. The Bakki industrial park near Húsavík is an exciting new location that has already been planned for future manufacturing.

Some brownfield opportunities also exist, e.g. utilizing previous fox- and mink farming facilities in the countryside or buildings and infrastructure previously used in harbours for various seafood processing.
