With the growing tourism to Iceland in recent years the country and nation are becoming better known, both for its nature and living style. Iceland is strategically well placed between Europe and America, but could also become an important link to Asia, both through flight and shipping. These opportunities are well documented at the Arctic Portal.

Iceland is a member of the European Economic Area (EEA) and has in addition signed several international trade agreements, such as a free trade agreement (FTA) with China, a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with Indonesia and a tax convention with Japan. Such agreements are important for existing and future trading to and from Iceland, including shipping at large future harbours in Dysnes and Finnafjörður.
