Iceland has an extensive road network, connecting all island inhabitants. The maximum allowed speed is 90 km/h. The roads can be blocked some days in winter but recent improvements in the Northeast include a tunnel connecting Eyjafjörður (Eyjafjordur) to the eastern regions enhancing both performance and safety.
